What is Speech-Language Pathology (SLP)?

Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) focuses on helping children and youth develop the communication skills they need to connect with others, express themselves, learn, and participate confidently in everyday life. At Nurturing Behaviours, our Speech-Language Pathologists support children and youth from infancy through 18 years of age, using individualized, evidence-based approaches tailored to each child’s unique strengths and needs.

Communication looks different for every child. Some children may need support learning to say their first words, while others may benefit from help with understanding language, improving speech clarity, building social communication skills, or using alternative ways to communicate. Our SLPs work closely with families to create meaningful goals that support success at home, school, and in the community.

Our Speech-Language Pathologists can provide support with:

  • Speech sound development and pronunciation
  • Language development (understanding and using language)
  • Social communication and conversation skills
  • Autism and social communication support
  • Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)
  • Early language development
  • Childhood apraxia of speech and motor speech disorders
  • Stuttering and fluency
  • Voice concerns
  • Literacy and early reading foundations
  • Parent coaching and caregiver education
  • School collaboration and consultation

We believe communication is more than just words—it’s about helping every child find their voice and connect with the people around them. Our SLPs work collaboratively with our ABA, Occupational Therapy, and Social Work teams to provide comprehensive, child-centred care that supports each child’s overall development and well-being.
