A Partnership Between Nurturing Behaviours Inc. & Finan Swim School

What is Supportive Swm Steps?
Our swim program is a supportive, individualized swim experience designed for children and youth of all abilities. This program focuses on building water confidence, safety skills, and foundational swimming abilities in a fun, structured, and compassionate environment.
Led by trained staff who understand diverse learning needs, each swim session is tailored to meet the unique strengths and goals of every child. Using evidence-based strategies, including visual supports, prompting, and positive reinforcement, we help participants feel safe, successful, and engaged in the water
S.S.S. is ideal for children who may feel overwhelmed in traditional swim lessons or who benefit from extra support, including those with autism or other developmental differences. Whether your child is just getting comfortable in the water or working toward independent swimming skills, we meet them where they’re at and celebrate every step of progress.
What to expect?
During your child’s session, you can expect a highly supportive, structured, and team-based approach designed to help every swimmer feel safe and successful.
Each session includes two dedicated facilitators in the pool area:
- A swim instructor from Finan Swim School, providing expert instruction on water safety and swimming skills
- An ABA facilitator from Nurturing Behaviours Inc. (who is also a certified swim instructor), supporting learning through individualized, evidence-based strategies
This collaborative model allows us to blend strong swim instruction with personalized behavioural support, ensuring your child is learning in a way that works best for them.
At times, you may also notice additional team members present, including Registered Behaviour Analysts (clinicians). They are there to:
- Provide guidance and coaching to staff
- Support your child’s individual goals
- Observe and collect data to track progress
- Offer suggestions to enhance learning and engagement
Our goal is to create a calm, encouraging environment where your child can build confidence, develop skills, and enjoy their time in the water—while being supported every step of the way.
